If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away---Henry David Thoreau

Floating in Space by Leo Hartshorn (1998)

floating in space
I look back at the blue orb of earth
hanging in space like a marble
out of body
in a space suit of my imagination
soaring in the still blue moment
the earth but a mustard seed
practically unnoticed
a speck on the glasses of God
an inner voice
hums an ancient verse
I learned as a child
in bare feet
and naked innocence
it is a word
that creates worlds
births love
I hear
for God so loved the world…
tiny speck that it is
